Intentional teaching

Intentional teaching is deliberate, purposeful and thoughtful. Educators who engage in intentional teaching recognize that learning occurs in social contexts and that interactions and conversations are vitally important for learning. 3a supports and utilizes Intentional Teaching strategies such as modelling and demonstrating, open questioning, speculating, explaining, engaging in shared thinking and problem solving to extend children’s thinking and learning. Acting with knowledge and purpose ensuring children acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. We can encourage children’s efforts and help them to extend their learning by using language, talking with them about what they’re doing, by joining in their play, and by helping them to solve problems.
